Soufriere Volcano, St. VincentSt. Vincent and the Grenadines has joined the list of Caribbean countries beginning to explore their geothermal energy potential:

The government of St Vincent and the Grenadines is pursuing a variety of green energy sources, particularly geothermal, according to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

The Prime Minister was speaking this week following his return from a series of overseas engagements in the Middle East, including the World Energy Forum.

One of those energy sources could be geothermal, which is being pursued on several Caribbean islands, including Dominica and Nevis.

Gonsalves said St Vincent could benefit “significantly” from exploring alternative fuel sources, and that representatives from two “reputable” companies would be visiting the country next week to follow up on talks relating to the harnessing of geothermal energy.

Next week, a delegation from the Clinton Global Initiative will also be visiting the country to provide technical assistance relating to geothermal power.
