Virgin Holidays, the Travel Foundation and Caribsave have partnered to provide long-term and sustainable support to the fishermen of Bluefields Bay, Jamaica.

We’re working with Bluefields Bay Fisherman’s Society to establish a fish sanctuary, or ‘Marine Protected Area’ (MPA), which will restrict fishing in a clearly marked zone, and allow fish stocks to regenerate. Bluefields Bay Fisherman’s Society represents approximately 250 fishermen, who are trying to earn a living from the Caribbean Sea. Controlling fishing zones means securing a profitable future for this community, who rely heavily on fishing as a source of income.

Previously on Green Antilles: In Bluefields Bay, Jamaican fishers are key contributors to marine conservation and No-fishing zones established for marine protection in Jamaica.
