In the run-up to elections, the government in Trinidad and Tobago is voicing its support for agriculture and agri-business:
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr Lenny Saith yesterday said Government is moving to transform the agriculture sector by moving from agriculture to agribusiness.
…
“We plan to make every farmer, fisherman, every shepherd of small animals and every livestock farmer, businessmen and women,” he said.

He said last year was a bumper year in agriculture.“In addition to Government’s assistance, ideal weather conditions existed for crop production. Farmers were able to reap multiple harvests. All of the people of Trinidad and Tobago benefitted from more food at more affordable prices. Records show an abundance of vegetables, fruits, roots and tubers were on the market,” he said. “The truth is the local agriculture sector is stronger with a bright prospect for the future. No government in their right mind cannot be committed to agriculture and its basic development.”
